I do a bit of both, myself, but I find myself looking at some of the job ads
and wondering who exactly they find that can do all of that stuff *well*!
I'm inclined more toward the technical side, but I'm taking design classes
(and joining lists like this one) to get a better feel for the design part
of the "web design" job.

I have found that many people are good at both - not experts, but competent
professionals that have a grasp of both the development world and a great
eye for design.

I learned the design aspects first - then slowly learned the programming
side. Maybe that is the easiest way.
