Yeah Mike, I think you're right on that one. I really don't think this
will benefit developers.
On Mike Chambers' blog he writes "We [Macromedia] will able to compete
more effectively,
innovate more, and be more responsive than we would have been able to do
on our own."
While the latter may be true about responsiveness, in my experience
bigger usually means
less responsiveness and bureaucratic inertia. And come on! Compete with
who? This is a
case of one behemoth company swallowing it's only real competitor. This
upsets a major
balance in the multimedia development industry.

It will affect prices. Remember Cool Edit? I recently wanted to
upgrade, just to see that Adobe bought it and tripled its price
tag, without adding anything to it but a new name. Macromedia
products were always lower in price than Adobe's. This will
surely adapt after the merger.
