Device independence is a good point, though part of me thinks that once
the market drives the number of device types down, design for those
devices may also split.  This is obviously pretty speculative, but...

And scott is right about the disparity between what we want, and what
we've got...  but we've got to work in what's available.  What are the
compelling arguments, in the current climate, for abandoning tables?
