I have been to the museum - a couple of years ago.  My mother lives in 
Clinton, NC.  I just looked at the website to see what it takes to be admitted to 
the tribe.  (See below)  I will have to get the records to prove my lineage... 
my children would qualify with 1/16 also... assuming that we can find proof for 
the family stories.  
One of my daughters (from my second marriage, now extinct) is 1/16 Cherokee 
and 1/4 Mixti Indian ( a tribe from Central Mexico).  Our last name YRINEO is a 
Spanish name - (pronounced  id-in-nay-oh) - comes from the era when Cortez 
invaded Mexico and the Spaniards intermarried with the locals.

Enrollment in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is governed by tribal 
ordinance #284 dated June 24, 1996 and restricts enrollment to the following: 
 direct lineal ancestor must appear on the 1924 Baker Roll of the Eastern 
Band of Cherokee Indians. (Note: The Baker Roll is the base roll of the Eastern 
Cherokee and contains the name, birthdate, Eastern Cherokee Blood quantum and 
roll number of the base enrollees. 
 Blood Quantum:
 must possess at least 1/16th degree of Eastern Cherokee blood
