Although I don't have earthlink my son was doing business on Ebay through
Paypal and received such an email. He responded to question it and within
the hour they had closed his account- took $4,000.00 from my credit card and
$999.00 from my bank savings account. It took almost 4 months to get the
money back and I had over $200.00 in service charges from my bank even
though they knew it was happening I still had to pay the overdraft charges.
Luckily he was watching and contacted Paypal within the hour to stop it but
the damage had been done. A legimate business will never email you for your
account information. Do not respond - that is how they get your information
and close your account so you can't do anything about it. As bad as it was
I was lucky to only have had that much taken and I did get it back.
