I started carving when in Central Canada on assignment. It was either
alcohol or something constructive (or a little of both) to deal with the
long and deadly cold winters. I started with the Sunset book on woodcarving
and a set of Millers Falls palm tools. After returning to the States (10
years later), I started taking classes from the top caricature carvers and,
over the years, have been fortunate to have had classes from Enlow,
Kaisersatt, Dunham, Landen, Ortel, LeClair, Price, Taylor, Bolton, Batte,
Prescott, Sabol and Bishop. I have a collection of most all of the
caricature carving books (probably missing a few of Wolfe's). I carved my
first caricature figure at age 42 and am still at it at 73. It's one of the
major joys in my life.
