1. Who taught you to carve, if you were taught by someone else?

2. How many of you are "self taught" (which could include using books, etc.)?

3. How many of you started carving "late in life" (use your own discretion)?

       1. When I was 8 we lived in a small place about 10 miles from town.
Town had a Post Office. This was 1970 in East Tenn a man came thru in a wagon
doing an old time traveling show I guess as a novelty he taught me how to carve
flowers. After that it was birds and bears.
        2. Got away from carving because I needed to make a living and worked
for some movie companies doing graphic and visual art for exhibits. Moved
back home and carving had become an art I could make a living doing. There are
many full time animal and stick carvers here. But no face carvers. I bought some
medical books and started to study. I have never had a carving teacher but
have had the fortune of knowing and gaining from the knowledge of several artist
that have taught me how to visualize what I want to accomplish. I still study
different artist both modern and past, painters and woodcarvers, to get ideas.
      3. I have carved or been in various kinds of art since I was 8 and now
41. I dont think I will live long enough to become as good as I would like.
There are so many woodcarvers and artist I get inspiration from.
