Typically a magazine purchases "first rights."   Thus, any reuse of the
material would be under the control of the author and not the publishers of
the magazine.  Therefore, the copyrights on the articles hold for the
authors  even when the magazine is out of business.  To reproduce the
material you would have to contact the author or the heirs if the author is
no longer living.  (I don't recall the number of years it takes before
writing falls into public domain.)
