Ole Joe,
I agree, they have to be safe first.  But I hate to put a big ugly tip on a 
pretty cane. I use one too, some of the time, and these tips haven't 
slipped yet for me.  These rubber grips I get are made to prevent slippage 
in furniture. Tho they don't have as large a contact surface. I just make 
sure the screw is pulled into it so it doesn't contact a surface.
