I think Diamond Willow does grow bigger/taller and larger diameter in Canada and possibly in Alaska. In West Central Minnesota about the largest diameter I have found is about 5 inch and the tallest is about 16 to 18 feet. A lot of it will have a Y and then when it gets to about the 4 inch diameter it will split at the Y either caused by wind, or weight of the branch I assume. I see lots of splits in the Y area.

A strong wind will blow the tree down. I think it does that because it is standing close to water and the roots are not very deep. I do not have any info that backs up my statements, it is just what I find in our area. May Alex Bisso can shed a little light on what he finds in Montana.
Can you help Alex??
