Lynn:
I have studied Ron's flat plain carving for years.
Your explanation is about what I was thinking. Many of the guys I know use
few gouges and long smooth cuts.
Thanks for the explanation.

Loren
Thanks for the kind words.
In the research that I have done, probably the best explaination I have
found is as follows;
Flat plane carving is a carving style where large flat planes are created
using primarly a knife and a few gouges. Rounding or sanding is not
typically seen on the carving.
I know that this is style of carving is predominately associated with Harley
Refsal and Scandinavian carving, but it can be seen in alot of other
nations. One of the finest around is our own Ron Wells who has taught flat
plane carving of his special hillbilly and caricature carvings.

Dick:
Lynn Diel has been studying this art form and has some great nativity
patterns. I know what I think it is but I bet Lynn knows what the pros say
it really is. How about it Lynn. Great question.
