Re: [Woodcarver] Re: Follow The Sun-to MT, ID, WY, UT?I guess I should chime
in and advise everyone of some other carving events in WY and MT. In August
there is a week-long seminar called "Carving Wildlife in West Yellowstone"
It is held at the Lion's Head RV park (also has tent sites and a Super 8)
about 7 miles west of West Yellowstone which is just outside of Yellowstone
National Park. There have been 4 of these to-date and I went to them all -
great fun carving all day and camping by lake Hebgon and fishing in the
evenings. I will post a notice to the list when I get the details on the
2005 event. Also in August (might conflict with the first mentioned is a
Woodcarver's Rendezvous that is held annually in West Glacier, just outside
of Glacier National Park. I think most of the classes here are free. The
best way to get information on this is to contact Una Schlaebitz with the
Montana Woodcarvers Association at unabruce at centric.net
Also, this year they had the first annual "Western and Wildlife" carving
seminar, week-long, in Beulah, WY. I know they are planning to do it again
next year, in September I think, and Kirt Curtis would be the person to
contact for information about it.

Hope this helps.. if I'm not off on the direction of this thread.. if
so.. squash me like a bug.. :-)

There is a GREAT seminar that is held at the Univ of Montana, Missoula
every summer.. I'll be attending again this coming year. Quite a number of
very good instructors. A few more well known names would be Bob Guge
(birds), Desiree Hajney (sp?), Clark Schreibeis (fish).. I don't remember
the names of some of the other famous ones off hand.. but, there are some
more that are specialists in their fields, such as birds..

There is also a fun group that meets at Arrowhead Rv Park in Cascade,
ID. It goes on all summer long. The "resident" carver is Tom Moore. He
has written a book on American Indian style carving.. he is a good
instructor.. and the price is as good as it gets. Also, Kathleen Schuck,
the former owner of Wood n Things carving supply in Nampa, Id is also there
for a few weeks during the summer.. maybe more now that she has sold her
business and has time to breathe.
