Many thanks to all those who have taken the time to look at my new carvings
and comment on them. This www community of carvers has been and continues to
be a great source of inspiration and encouragement to me.

Lynn D. asked
"Have you carved Cottonwood bark before?"
Yes, though it has been a long time. I actually first got introduced to
carving when an old buddy sent me a set of beginners tools and a box of
cottonwood bark from Gillette Wyoming. I love to carve it, I just haven't
had much of an opportunity till I got some from Alex Bisso. He really has
some nice bark.

Ray M. asked
"I like the heart/sap wood effects. What kind of cedar is that??"
It is just plain old, what we call down here, red cedar. I'm sure someone
else could probably go into more detail on the species. I cut my own cedar
from a glade not far from my house. The cedar there is nice and straight,
and most of the trees are free of limbs for about the first 10 - 15 feet.
This makes it nice to carve because there aren't many knots to deal with.

P. S.
I spent yesterday putting some color on the hanging Blackfoot bust.
