Hi Doug,
I sat down in the afternoon to try it myself so I could see where there
might possibly be any problems. My only problem was I needed to mark which
was the front edge on the pattern, it was a little confusing when I started,
and had to start over!! Now I know where the ears are!! I did it in less
than a 1/2 hour counting drawing on the pattern. When you watch beginners,
you forget that you were there once, and that it takes them more than twice
as long as it takes you, but is so much fun to see them light up when they
actually see what happens with the knife on the different parts of the wood.
I even had some 50/50 alcohol to spray on the end grain, but only after
they tried it dry to see how different and harder t is.
I think I will do a beginner carving project at the Roundup with it for the
ones who have never carved. Maybe I could even have some soap on hand!! Is
your uncle now a carver?
