Whoo, my little dc240 has been doing sterling service for years now. 
Digicams are perfect for getting stuff online (we use it mostly to get
family photos online so family in .au can see the kids).

As others have said keep the dpi no higher than 100 or so and keep the
physical dimensions such that the whole image can be viewed on a 640x480
screen.

Even on broadband keeping the image size down makes a lot of sense. 
Particularly if the hosting end applies bandwidth throttling.  

obList: I've just started carving, once I've done something worth
looking at I'll post some photos :)
