[Woodcarver] relief carving instruction suggestions

Hi, Dave,

I tend to agree with John (aka MrChips) on keeping the design 
prettysimple.  I usually do a simple mushroom design for a first relief 
carving.  If you want to demonstrate carving straight lines as well as 
curved lines and working with grain, you can add a "frame" around the edges 
that would finish it off nicely.  I chose a mushroom because of the curves 
and because if offers opportunity for to use layering and undercutting  to 
separate the stem from the cap.  You can also introduce elements of 
perspective into it.  And often mushrooms are used in country motifs, so it 
could be a nice finished item to hang on a wall.
Whatever you decide on..have a great time!  Teaching is great exoerience 
and FUN!
