Steve.....that is a great Christmas present.....but dont stop there.....there is a Japanese water stone that fits the Tormek.....its a bit spendy....BUT when you have sharpened a damaged or redress an edge of a tool.....the standard Tormek stone will NOT get a polish back on the heel of the tool.....this is where the Japanese stone comes in......i use the 800 grit type, and when im done finishing up the tools edge, its a mirror again......Tormek is a fine piece of equipment to have but their stone is pretty rough....also you should get the leather stropping attachment that enables you to do the backside of gouges and v-grooves.....AND dont use powdered stropping material on the wheel, cause it doesnt stick......the Tormek tube stropping that comes with the unit is also a bit messy......i use the green stick by VERITAS, IT IS EXCELLENT IN GETTING AN EDGE BACK without going to the stone.....have lots of good sharp knives in the future......carve on and God Bless

One of the best Christmas gifts that I have ever received from
my wife... A "Tormek" water cooled sharpener..... This has got
to be one of the slickest sharpening systems ever. It came with
the woodturners package with a carvers set up as well. :)
What a wonderful wife I have......

I have some Arkansas oil stones. Had them for years. 2 of them are over 30 years old and another is 20 years old. Your comment got me to wondering so I did a quick search. Here is the link to my search results. Sure you will find 1 here.

I think I have seen them at Accademy. Not sure of there Web addy though so just type in Accademy Outdoors in the search window.
