Stephen, a firewall is almost a necessity these days with the hackers and others working full time, but a firewall will not normally stop Spam. I think there is one or two which says it has Spam capabilities but from what I have seen, they are not all that effective. Possibility exists that the newest firewalls are better about Spam projection, don't know.
The best solution is for your Internet Provider to install the Spam filters on their equipment. If they don't do that, you can buy a program such as Spam Killer which can filter the Spam to a separate folder and then you can look to see if there is any good E-mail in the folder, then delete the Spam.
Someone mentioned the Microsoft update. This is not Spam, it is a virus (Trojan Horse) and you should never click on the link or on an attachment this type of junk has with it. The Mircrosoft virus has been making its rounds for months now and there are people who still fall for it.

Work fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours on end.

I'm getting the same junk and it is coming as mail from the list. Anybody discovered any sort of vacination against this stuff? I'm deleting 200+ bogus mailings a day, and that's after it's gone through three firewalls (not all via the mailing list...that avenue just seems to have started in the last day or two). I honestly don't know if there is any way to block the garbage as long as it's being generated by programming that makes every piece unique. My web guru has told me that the spammer's use spiders that can latch on to any email address that might be on a webpage or in a computer with a cable hookup like RoadRunner...And it can probably get into a modem connection any time it's on-line, I would think. Sometimes this "free speech" thing seems to have it's downside, don'cha know.
Stephan
