Buck Bros were, at one time, a very good toolmaker, particularly for straight
chisels and woodturning tools. Their old carving tools were good and priced for
the average craftsman who needed a few carving tools. There were designed from
American patterns, not European patterns, and were somewhat lighter in structure
and design. Most likely they were drop forged rather than hand forged,
therefore accounting for the grain structure of the steel that Joe noted in his
reply. This was all prior to the 1950's although I don't have an better date to
provide.
