I agree. I'm using a program called 'Mailwasher' to catch SPAM;

Acts as a mail header viewer/ filter / blacklist'er. It displays email 
headers at your
ISP server (Internet Service Provider). Set up filters to detect and catch 
SPAM before
you download it to your computer via your email software which can then be 
separated
(filtered and blacklisted) and marked for deletion all before you let them 
near your
own system!!
