> My Bible is old and getting worn so I thought I could make a cover/holder
for it out of wood. I thought about making a box out of thin 1/4 inch stock
and chip carving it. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Does anyone
have any other ideas? I just don't know if this is a practical way to do
this. Please let me know what you think.

Hi John

In 1989 while traveling in the "Holy Land" I purchased a bible in Jerusalem
that is covered in olive wood. The wood is approx 1/8" thick and thinly
carved with a design on the cover. When I used to attend church I carried it
for a while, but my wife decided to put it away as a family keep sake. I
still think it is practical if kept thin and light for regular use and
should prove durable depending on the binding material.
