Hi Merrilee,
Most Deck Sealer is little more than wax and doesn't last long and doesn't
do much.
Outdoor oil does cost more but it does more. You will also have to do it
several time at first and than about once a year after that. The product I
use is called Outdoor Oil and is made by General Finishes Corp, P.O. Box
2213, Waukesha, WI. 53187. I have nothing to do with this company I just
like their products.
One gallon will cover about 100 square feet if the surface is rough and up
to 250 square feet is the surface is smooth. Apply with a spray, brush or
rag. Keep rags outside and hung up to dry stiff before throwing them away.
Cleanup with mineral spirits.
They advertise twice the oil and resin content as other brands. It has UV
prohibitors as well as heat stablizers and mildue prohibitors. They don't
advertise bug prohibitors but I feel the oil and resin, along with a tiny
amount of what seems to be skunk oil, keeps the bugs out better than other
oils. They call it an outdoor oil with guts.
Tell them that Joe sent you. hehehehehe
