Hi Everyone!
First - I'd like to thank all of you wonderful people for your generous
gifts and prayers during my cancer treatment. My treatment will
continue through the whole summer and possibly into the fall so it
sincerely means a lot to me!
I have been receiving a lot of questions about the fundraisers and our
woodcarving festival - so I thought I'd let you all know what's
happening!
There are two woodcarving fundraisers planned. The first one will be
held during the Whillock Woodcarving Festival in Faribault, MN on
Saturday & Sunday, August 21 & 22. The carvings will be sold during a
silent auction. Some of those carvings will also be posted on eBay two
weeks before the event so everyone has a chance to bid on them. There
will be a computer set up at the festival for those of you who want to
bid on those items. Both the eBay auction and the silent auction will
end at the same time - Sunday at 4:00 pm. Our fantastic Joe Dillett has
been receiving carvings as well as cane segments. He will bring them to
Faribault next week (yeah - I get to see Joe again!) People can also
send carvings to us in Faribault.
The second fundraiser is organized by another amazing man - Dennis Moor
of Chipping Away. He is planning a huge event - A Woodcarver's
Conference - in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on September 10, 11 & 12. He
offered to have a silent auction for me at this conference. More
details about his event, the fundraiser and photos of the carvings being
sold can be found on his website: http://www.chippingaway.com/ If my
cancer treatment allows - I WILL be at his event!! Cross your fingers
and toes for me!
Our Woodcarving Festival in August will be held at the Faribault Ice
Arena and will feature carving displays, demonstrations, mini-seminars,
tool sales, music and the silent auction. All of the instructors
teaching the mini-seminars will have their carvings on display -
including the fantastic Ivan Whillock and caricature artist Marv
Kaisersatt. My Dad - Ivan Whillock - is not only bringing his carvings,
but also some paintings and sculptures for display. My Dad wants to
keep the event very affordable so many people can enjoy woodcarving.
For that reason there is free admission and the mini-seminars are only
$5.00 each plus supplies. The instructors for the mini-seminars
include: Marv Kaisersatt, Joe Dillett, Ev Ellenwood, Fred & Elaine
Stenman, Sally & David Nye, Bob Mau, Gen Jansen, Sandie Roosa, Ol' Don
Burgdorf, Walt Grittner, Chris Howard and Chris Whillock. All of these
instructors will be also be offering free demonstrations throughout the
weekend. Vendors include Stubai Direct, Marnie Whillock Associates,
Carving Magazine, Larry and Carol from The Woodcraft Shop and John
Krantz wood sales. We will also have an open music jam on Saturday
evening - so bring your instruments. If you'd like to display your
carvings, there is still room. Please email me privately if you'd like
more details about this event - marn at marniewhillock.com.
Have a great day!
