Greetings To All Mail List Members:
When Marnie Whillock's plight was first announced to the MAIL LIST SUBSCRIBERS, we were all asked to help out by contributing financially or with a carving for a silent auction. The auction is to be held at a Festival in MN in August. Bill Judt and Doe Dillett have been instrumental in this endeavour.
The staff at Chipping Away have also decided to do whatever we can to help her. Our first step was to seek approval from not only Bill and Joe, but also Marnie and her family and having obtained their endorsement we have set some wheels in motion.
Our first approach was to contact Randy Langden of the Caricature Carvers of America. Being the kind of people they are (and as most carvers) they jumped on the wagon without hesitation. Randy and the Board of The CCA have offered: "We'd like to support the fundraising by doing a "group" carving scene of a woodcarver, much like the ones we've done for Ted McGill and Jack Williams. The photographer we did for Jack is on our website at www.cca-carvers.org , if you'd care to look at it. Then, we'd like to offer the piece for sale on EBay (we're just finishing up the CCA auction on EBay and the results have been fantastic...." I am sure you will all agree that this is a wonderful gesture. But ...the CCA members, nor Chipping Away plan to stop there!
The next approach that Chipping Away wishes to take is to hold an additional Silent Auction at our upcoming International Carver's Conference on September 10, 11, and 12th here in Kitchener, ON. We will have an entirely different group of carvers here than at the Whillock Festival in August, and it also provides some extra time for those wishing to contribute. We have already heard individual CCA members will be sending carvings for our September auction.
To see the details, instruction, etc for this Silent Auction, please visit www.chippingaway.com and click on the marquee reading: Marnie Whillock ~ Silent Auction
We invite YOUR contribution of a carving for the Conference Silent Auction. All carvings contributed will be photographed and pictured together with the name of the carver on our website. We believe it is important to have a wide variety of carvings with different 'value' levels in order to have something of appeal to all attendees. We will have a suggested minimum bid on each item. Should there be carvings that are not sold during the Conference, it is our intent to offer them by Silent Auction on our website. The website auction would be for a limited period of time and bids accepted by email only. All of this information is included on the website.
We invite you to visit this site now ... it can be accessed through our main website at: www.chippingaway.com We believe it will answer most of your questions, but if you have further questions, please email them "off the list". Caution ...do not ship carvings without referring to the instructions offered on the website ...all the details are provided there ...this is critical!
Marnie's needs (both spiritual and financial) will be very challenging, but I truly believe our woodcarving community is up to the task. Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers.
