Hi Terry,
1/2-inch copper water pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8-inch. I would cut
a piece 6-inches long and sleeve it 3-inches onto each dowel. Than I would
pin it to keep it from coming apart.

that I had to fiddle with. They wern't strong enough so I ended up putting
a metal sleve around the joint. This worked but was too much trouble and I
should have asked this question before I started. How do you connect the 2
dowels?
