I'm a qualified "master" in both Minnesota and Iowa, and have had state-supported apprentices from both states. I have not looked into other states, but I'm sure there are programs in most. Check you state arts board.

(Some states have a "master-apprentice program" supported by their arts
boards. Artists submit examples of their work and fill out some paperwork
and, if they qualify, are then designated a "master" who can take
state-funded apprentices--thus, in that regard the terms do have some
limited validity in the U. S.)
Does any one know what states do this? or where one could read about it. thanks
