Greg:

Get a 1/4" triangle file for cutting the cross-hatch pattern on the end 
of the bolts. A 5?16" bolt and a 1/4" bolt are good for starters.
Make sure the valleys and the points are straight and even. A fine 
cross-hatch is better than a coarse cross-hatch. Take a look in my 
second book at the stamping tools illustrated there.
