I like it here in North America where we can do anything we want. The only
"hoop" you have to jump through is satisfying your customer.

AMEN! I truly feel it's this freedom that allows us to stretch the
boundaries without fear of being criticized. That might be one of the main
reason woodcarving has progressed to where it is today, because it is a big
experiment in which the participants share their successes and failures.
I feel that there is a need for a systematic program that begins with the
fundamentals and takes the student through a progression until they've
achieved a level they feel their growth can be more on their own in whatever
specially they choose. This would literally cut years off the learning
process of most carvers so they could quickly get down to the business of
doing art.
I think my project for your class, next month, has changed. I think I have
an order for a shepherd and some sheep that will need to be done shortly.
Kneeling, he'll be about 18-inches high out of basswood. I think I will
still bring the 16-inch Corpus but not as my main project.
