Hi Dan,
We enjoyed having you at our table and are so happy your father enjoyed
the fan bird you made for him. Now then, did you tell him "the
history?" ;) That is what we are all about...preserving this Old World
folk art so the history does not become extinct. We will be at Joe's
Gathering of Woodcarvers (GOW) in September. Bring your father and he
can learn first hand how to make a bird and what it is all about.
Looking forward to it.

Good Evening,
I returned from my first Roundup late yesterday afternoon. What an
incredible experience. I cannot wait
to go back again next year. I share Doug's opinions on the quality of
instructors, and the hospitality of everyone there.
A thank you to Sandy, Bob and everyone else who made this event happen,
and
a special thanks to all of the instructors
for taking time away from work and family to teach and lead workshops.
I got
to meet many here on the list for the first time,
and it was great to put a face to so many of you. I enjoyed my week
there
more than any vacation I've had in recent years.
I gave my fan carved bird to my father today, and he is thrilled with
it,
and wants me to teach him how to do it. I'm hoping
Sally and David can do that at GOW in September!
Thank You to all who worked, teached, or held out a friendly hand. What
a
wonderful group of people.
Thanks,
Daniel Heine

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, where to start ???? The weekend started with the first
Michigan Expo in many years sponsored by the Michigan Woodcarvers
Association. 35 clubs displayed the talent of their members. Many
individual members had there only table when they needed extra room to
display their carvings.
It was great to meet carvers on the list, make new friends and catch up
with old friends. John Pierce, Sandy and Bob Holder, Virginia Huffman,
Bill and Ruth Phillips, and Andy Luckhardt did one hell of a job!!! I
look forward to next years Expo!!
The Roundup was suppose to be Wednesday thru Saturday but started early
on Monday and was in full swing by Tuesday.
I'd like to thank my instructors Harold Joseph, Sally and David Nye, 'Ol
Don, Leonard Barr, and Joe Dillett.
It was great to meet Ray Mighells, Bob Mau, Joy Yax, Skincarp, Dawn
Starr, Chris Howard, Dennis Moor and BIG JOE!!
I was glad to visit with Carvingjack and Winnie( and help them celebrate
their 35th anniversary), George and Ann, Merrilee, Floyd, and the way up
there team of Bill and Larry, Gordie, etc, etc ( I know I missed
many!!!!)
I especially enjoyed visiting with Sandi and 'Ol Don. Sandi opened the
café to me many times over the week as well as many others. Her
hospitality was unbelievable!!!( so were her hugs). The new Café is a
small palace and is a home away from home. Don was a pleasure to visit
with. He is such a gentleman and has a great sense of humor. His
lectures, materials and class taught me a lot. Another thank you Don!!
The same core group organized the Expo as I thank above but especially
Sandy Holder. Thanks again to Sandy.
I know I forget to mention someone or thank someone but the week was a
blur especially after all I've had going on. I'll post pictures as soon
as I get a chance. Reality is back and work and commitments take over
once again.
Doug Evans
PS If you never heard "Ol Don play the guitar and sing , you are missing
a big treat. Don in every sense of the word is a true professional!!!!
Nashville let a great one slip by.
