Hi Cynda,
What program are you using? Is it a program on your computer or a
program on your web hosting server? We use Microsoft Front Page.
In Front Page I would create a table. I would select the number of
cells I need equal to the number of pictures I want in each row. The
number of rows, of course, is equal to the number of rows you will need
for each group of photos plus the number of rows you need for text and
captions between the photo rows. So, if I want three photos in a row,
five rows of photos, and text under each row that would equal a 10 row x
3 cell table.
In Front Page I can also select how wide the table will be ... A
percentage of the viewer's browser window means the table will adjust
according to who is seeing your page filling up just a certain
percentage of the space. You can also select the table to be a number
of pixels wide. The average viewer, internet user, sets their browser
window to either 800 wide x 600 high pixels or 1024 x 768 pixels. So as
a rule of thumb we set our tables at 750 pixels maximum or 80% if we use
the percentage. That way everyone gets to see everything in the table,
nothing gets lost along the far right side of the screen.
You can also set spacing and padding in a table. These are settings
that give just a little breathing room between rows (spacing) and cells
(padding). Again, as a rule of thumb around the studio we always allow
some of each, anywhere between 3 to 10 pixels.
If you want borders in Front Page there is an area in the "table
Properties' menu that lets you chose both the width and color of the
borders. We usually choose no borders ... Just our preference.
Lastly you can chose where the table, as a whole, lies on the page:
centered, left, or right, as well as locate the photos or text inside
each cell.
Once you have your table created with the cells and rows to accommodate
the number of photos per row you want to show you begin work on the text
rows. When you create the table the text rows will also contain cells.
So what you want to do is "Select" that row, then "Merge" the cells.
This makes the text rows one long row with only one cell.
If you don't use tables, at least in Front Page, you do get exactly what
you are talking about ... The photos stack vertically one on top of the
other.
Hope this helps.

Hi all,
I am finally trying to build a web page. I'm told it is so easy with
this
program. Well, like flying is easy to a trained pilot!
It is making progress but I am stuck on one thing. (well, this one,
anyway.) I can't get my pictures to go across the page, they want to
stay
in a left hand column. When I click to put them in the center or on the
right, it is still a step down the page. Somebody please tell me how to
get
them across in a row???? When adding a picture, it can only go to
someplace marked "add here." The Add here buttons don't come up where I
need them. HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!
HEre it is for what it's worth. Still have a lot of pictures to process.

I also want to change the name to eggsnwood. Sounds like my eggs are
all
made of wood.
