Paul,

Birch is used alot by the cabinet making industry.  Larger lumber yards
sometimes carry it, although in 1-2" thickness at the most.  If you find a yard
that carries it, they can perhaps help you with the sizes you may require. 
Other places to look will be sawmills that will cut birch from time to time.  
Try your phone book yellow pages or woodfinder.com to locate local suppliers in
your area or places that will ship lumber to you via UPS,etc.
