If anyone has a chance to visit Minneapolis, MN or nearby area between
now and May 30, 2004, you should try to get to the American Swedish
Institute. I was at a club meeting the end of February which was held
at the ASI and toured the building and carving collections of several
name carvers as well as some of our local carvers. The ASI has
accumulated over 380 carvings and they said more were still coming in on
loan.
WCI and Carving Magazine both have articles about the ASI but I can
assure you that seeing in person is something that will probably never
occur again. In one of the rooms with Janel carvings, there were 36
carvings that were listed for sale which ranged from $2000 to $25000.
Besides the carving on display there are various demos classes scheduled
through the showing and by going to the web site :

The Turnblad mansion was built 1904-1908 and the carvings in the mansion
are something to see as well as the collections that are being
displayed. I plan on going during the day light for the next visit
which should improve the lighting of the mansion and the carvings.
