  I purchased 2 vises at Menards (like lowes or home depot) that clamps on
to a table etc.  it has 2 holding devices, one is a regular jawed vise, the
other is a 'pipe' holder that is adjustable.  I have 2 set up and it is used
like the man made one.  As I am not to handy when it comes to making my own,
I love finding something that will serve more than one purpose, as well as
things it wasn't really designed for.  These clamps cost me $9.99 each.  If
folks are interested, I could take a photo of it...keep carvin'   vic.
