[Woodcarver] pencil marks

I used to use a pencil, but like some of the other replies, I wound up 
carving the pencil marks off.  That being the case.  I now use a ball point 
pen(cheapo like bic).The marks don't smear or lighten.  it doesn't soak into the wood 
and I will carve it all off anyway.  For marking lumber i prefer chalk.
