Joe and Jim:
About publishing specifications:
In the area of text, I submit my MS (read: manuscript) in MS (read:
Microsoft) Word format, with whatever formatting I want. The book
designer can make all the changes easily, regardless of the format I
use in the MS. The formatting I use is intended to help me organize the
book more easily... headings, bold, etc. FYI, I do keep it pretty
simple.
WRT digital images: I have a Fuji Finepix 4800 Zoom. This is a 2.4MP
camera which is capable of putting out 4.1MP files. Not every 2.4 MP
camera can do this. The CCD in my camera is called a super-CCD.
My publisher (Fox Chapel) tells me that files from my camera will
produce excellent 6" x 8" color photos are 300DPI. This, apparently, is
more than enough for publishing needs. The proof is in the pudding, as
they say. The images in my third book "Inspirational Relief Carving"
were produced entirely with this camera, and the photos turned out
excellent.
The best way to test your camera's capability is to submit the BEST
resolution image to your publisher and have them determine if the
images are acceptable for publishing. That's what I did.
I do not even edit the images. I simply submit them on CD and let the
editorial team do the rest. BUT... I try to submit two or three images
for most scenes so that the editor has a choice.
AND... always use a tripod and natural light to take your pictures. NO
FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is VERBOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps,
Bill
