Im with Mike on the linseed oil question
dont put that stuff on the stove
ever, even if you have managed to heat it successfully in the past. You can sun refine raw linseed oil at home, but so far as I know it is the only oil treatment that can be carried out successfully with home methods. I have never done it, so cannot vouch for the process. However, it is described in considerable detail in Ralph Mayers The Artists Handbook of Materials and Techniques and was used successfully for centuries before industrial methods cam along. Good luck. Id sure be interested to hear about your results if you do try sun refining. All best, Alice
