I have just returned from an RV/woodcarving trip and started catching
up on the list. The linseed oil subject led me to post an inquiry. I
completed a carving (painted) and finished it with boiled linseed oil
mixed with burnt umber (trying for antique/finish in one step). There are areas (facial wrinkles) that did not darken as much as I would
have liked. What now? I have used linseed oil as a finish only a few
times (years ago) without success. From now on I will stick to what I can make work. But, is there a method to accomplish antiquing at this
stage, or should I simply accept the carving as is and move on to
something else?
