Our 13 year old grand daughter wrote this poem

Look Back and Pray
By: Thea Clark

The years are on going,
The mountains are high,
The happiness of people,
Is not yet going to die.

We look back and remember,
What they had to do,
To fight for our freedom,
And die for me and you.

So we look back and pray,
For the people of those days,
In cold and lonely war,
And wish we could take it all away.

Many guns were fired,
Many battles lost,
Many hearts broken,
For freedom and it's cost.

Men were sent away,
>From their family and friends,
Never to come back,
Or see those smiles again.

It was the date of November Eleven,
At the eleventh hour,
When men were being killed,
For the pursuit of power.

Some came back home again,
And thanked God for his grace,
Others not so lucky,
And are lying in their graves.

We would like to thank the veterans,
For what they have done,
For creating our freedom,
And fighting till they won.

Boys and girls and moms and dads,
Gather once a year,
To pray and thank the soldiers,
Who fought against their fear.

Though the little ones might not know,
What we remember for,
But eventually they'll figure out,
It was for Canada, they went to war.

We fought, we won, we put down our guns,
And smiled once again,
Then drew a tear for others,
And good will toward men.

Do you ever think and wonder,
How life would be,
If the war had not started,
And men didn't go across the sea.

We wouldn't come together,
We wouldn't shed a tear,
We wouldn't have to remember,
Or gather once a year.

But we do cause this is life,
So we hear the anthem play,
Then have a silent moment,
When we think about this November day.

We may cry at times for this,
But just don't forget,
They did this to make us happy,
So lest we forget.

We look back and remember,
All those days of war,
And thank God it's all over,
And hope that there's no more.
