Mary Jo,
It's pretty tough wood, but if your patient...  I saw a female nude carved
from it last weekend... Very, very nice.  Mostly I've used it in turnings,
but did do one natural finish shore bird decoy.  The spalting and rose color
stains make it worth the hardness.
