I have carved some wood spirits in red cedar and love
the way they turned out with the variation in color.
I finished the face with tru oil
and one with danish oil.
Need your expert opinions on how to perserve the whole
piece to prevent splitting or rotting. I am going to give them
as christmas presents and it's possible they will
be outside in Kentucky 4 seasons weather.
Also I have come across some catalpa logs. Can I carve
this wood green? How can I tell a piece is ready
for carving? They are beautiful pieces but don't want
to start too early with them and ruin my find.
Thanking you in advance for your help
