I have cheap 1/8" and 1/4" air driven rotary tools that I picked up from
harbor freight for something like $20 each. They are excellent tools if
you have an air compressor. They are not as powerful as electric tools
but the speed is pretty high so you get nice control. The 1/8" tool is
about the thickness of a Sharpie. Another plus is that the longer you
use it, the cooler it gets. I use if for detailing, tagua nut carving
and glass carving with diamond bits. The glass work is fun - I print
out a pattern on the computer, tape it to the inside of a
straight-walled mug, and trace it on the outside with a ball bit.

Christmas present alert. When the family gets together at my in-laws
for holidays, there are about 20 of us and no one can remember which
glass is which. I gave everyone a glass with their name on it and some
character or animal that they liked (otters, dragonflys, Mavin the
Martian, Pooh, dragons, etc.) to keep there. They take about an hour to
do once you practice. I'm sure you could do suncatchers, tree ornaments
and other stuff.
