I have a 400sx high speed engraver from SCM systems... it runs on 45 psi of
air pressure and turns at 400,000 rpm. It's about the size of a large pen
or a dentist's drill, but it does go through wood very fast, and with almost
total control. There is so little vibration that you don't feel it and
other than the noise from the air compressor, all there is is a high pitched
whine. It IS expensive, around $500.00 US, but it's worth it. It is small,
so only really good for small projects, it's great for detail work though.
I'm new to carving, and hope this information is what you're looking for.
