Hi Folks,
Thanks for the welcome to the forum, and thanks Bill for making
it possible. Jan, you have a really fine web site there. Beautiful work.
JohnG, Bill, and Jan, thanks for the nice notes of welcome. Susan,
your website and the patterns you make are really great! It's very inspiring and encouraginging to see what everyone is doing.
I had a little snag getting the first post on but all seems well now.
One thing I've learned about computers is there are many ways to get the same thing done, and as many ways to mess it up. ;-)
Soaking Holly in Brine! Wonderful! Thanks for the info Thomas. I've seen beautiful white Holly pin striping inlay in furniture. I've made wooden martial arts weapons, Bokken (wooden sword), tanto (knife), and Jo (staff) from Purpleheat. Before finishing with Tung Oil I would let
them stand out in the sun to patina to a beautiful violet purple.
I've heard of gasing, or fuming oak with chemicals in a tent of plastic to change the color for "Craftsman" style furniture. Also, steaming Beech changes the natural color to a very warm orange.
I second Susan's request. Anyone know more preserving, or coloring
techniques they could share?
