[Woodcarver] Dried Walnut

Now ... Do you have any thoughts about English Walnut like the one  you
shared on holly.

    The only thing that I found out about walnut, and  perhaps any wood of a 
large size is that it may still have moisture in it  after years of drying. 
    Friend of mine cut a rather large walnut about  10-12 years ago. He had 
had it cut into some large pieces about 12"X12" and  10' long. He wanted to cut 
it into pieces to have mantels made for his 3  children. We cut the first 
piece at my home on my 16" bandsaw. Used  several support structures, etc. Cut 
one into 6 length. 
    I layed the cut off piece on my table saw  and left it overnight. The 
next day, I found rust forming on my saw table under  the walnut. 
    Learned my lesson. Don't leave any wood on a metal  tool for any extended 
period of time regardless of how long it has  been drying.
