[Woodcarver] WALKING STICK QUESTION?

I use a cane & have made quite a few. I like a thickness/diameter of the
bottom shaft to be around 3/4 of an inch
to about one inch. I use Birch saplings (& Oak) and cut them to this size. I
laminate the handle, both for appearance
and for strength. The grain on the center piece runs up-and-down, and the
grain on the outside pieces run right-to-left.

The 'generic' length of the finished cane should be from the ground to the
wrist-bone. I like my canes to be slightly longer
(about an inch) so my arm is slightly bent. Best to make it a little longer
& then cut it down to a comfortable size. It's
a pain adding-on to a finished cane, plus it doesn't look as well.

I have some pictures of some of mine on my PictureTrail Album.
