[Woodcarver] bench height.

Hi Joe - I always enjoy your comments and the way you share your experience
in clear practical explanations. The one on bench height sent me running to
my workbench to check it out against the masters advice and I was very
surprised and pleased to find out that I got that one just right. I still
have not done any significant relief carving but my bench is a good height
for it. Maybe one day I will take some lessons on that.
ALEX

Hi Maricha,

The proper bench height for carving is measured by standing straight next to
your bench with your arm at your side bent at the elbow. Place your other
hand vertical under your elbow. The bench top should be one hand width below
your elbow when you are standing straight.

one of my students is very short in stature, and i placed myself in her
shoes, and realized how difficult it was for her to reach out and carve ....
so my delightful husband made a box to stand on ... she feels on top of the
world, she is very artistic and is doing wonders.....

any comments on how the list members feel about the right height for carving
whilst standing or sitting, would be much appreciated.

best wishes
maricha
