Hi Merrilee,
Pictou Man was just a name I gave to this carving as I did him on a weekend
carving seminar in a place called Pictou, which is about 21/2 hours from my
home. We went up there for the weekend and my wife and girls spent the
weekend shopping and sight seeing while I carved. Pictou is the home of the
ship Hector, a replica of an old fashioned famous sailing ship. Keith
Matheson, the owner of the carving studio there worked on Hector as the
ships carver when it was being built, you can check out his web site at:
www.carvers,ca
Interesting site with lots of neat stuff. Pictou is also an Historic Town.
George Canyon, the singer who was runner up at the recent Nashville talent
show also comes from there.
So there you go, the origin of the famous Pictou Man, and a little bit about
Nova Scotia.
Take care,
Clive.
