Hi Patricia - Keep in mind when you do carve bone carve/antler carve you
will need to wear a good filtering mask, not just one of those painters
mask. The dust it gives off can give you white lung (same disease as coal
miners but instead of black lung you get white). The antlet carving is
actually pretty cool if you stick with a low relief. If you do try to carve
through and have a in-the-round sort of relief carving then the inside
material will have to be coated with a hardener to allow more detailed
carving. Super glue works but is toxic when power carved as it creates a
fume, I believe super-glue vapours are a carcenagen (spelling). Hope this
helps.
Terry

Hi everyone!
I was recently given a deer antler to carve into a weasel. I have never
carved an antler before, so I was wondering if anyone may have any advice or
tips for me, or if there's anything I should know about carving antler? I'm
really new to carving to begin with, and I deal mainly with relief carving,
or carving into eggshells. thanks a bunch!
Patricia
