Harry if you can't find vet wrap, I think you will find the high 
friction tape from the Lee Valley Tool catalogue at

to be very similar.

You might also want to check a local sporting good store and get a wrap 
they have which is at least quite similar.  I used to use it for 
wrapping the handle of my squash raquet when I was a little more agile.
