[Woodcarver] marbling a wooden carved plinth

Maricha, I marble painted a turned wooden lamp a few years ago.  It is 
basically a green marble, and it must be ok since folks I have told it 
is wood do not believe it.  Maybe they are just being kind, but I think 
it looks pretty good.

I bought a faux finish kit from a craft store, but as I recall, there 
was a base coat, which was solid, and then there were two other colours 
that were added by dipping a sea sponge in the paint and dabbing first 
one, and then the second colour, and then followed up with a creamy 
white applied with a feather to get the effect of graining, and finally 
a high gloss clear finish as the final step.

Actually, before sending this message, I was actually was able to find 
the instruction sheet that went with the package.  If you want, I could 
scan it and send it directly to you if you like.  This process certainly 
doesn't sound as  'interesting' as Susan's approach, but it worked for me.
